We have an extensive history of conducting and coordinating aquatic habitat assessments throughout coastal B.C. These assessments have ranged from science-based lake level manipulation studies to industry-based impact assessments and habitat mitigation/compensation plans. Through the use of GPS and conventional survey methods, SCUBA, sonar technology for deep water systems and orthophoto, satellite phototography and LIDAR coupled with the analysis capabilities of ArcGIS, we are able to identify and accurately map individual habitat features within a system and provide recommendations on potential restoration projects or target areas.
Our habitat assessment services include:
We specialize in aquatic effects assessments acceptable to DFO under the Fisheries Act. Our impact assessments involve accurately mapping out existing habitats and correlating this information to the proposed development plans to identify the most appropriate project sites. We then calculate the associated habitat losses and develop specific plans to minimize the predicted impacts through mitigation measures or offset unavoidable impacts through compensation. We maintain close relationships with regulatory agency staff to ensure that no matter what the project size and scope, we understand the regulatory approval process involved and are able to guide your project through to completion.
For previously impacted sites, we also provide professional guidance for habitat restoration and habitat banking.
